The Hilux started production 1968 and it was 1.5 L in line 4 engine with max power output 76 HP
-The second generation was 1973 with longer bed with 2.0 L engine 119 HP
-Third generation was introduced 1978 with 4WD the improvement was in the front suspension it was changed from coil spring to torsion bar where one end of the metal bar is attached firmly to the chassis and the other bar end a lever this mechanism is used in combat vehicles and tanks as well
-Fourth generation 1983 the cab was extended 6 in behind the seat for additional storage the new pick up came with carbureted and fuel injection engines tow options and due to the tough competition with Nissan came with V6 hilux replaced the front suspension with an independent front suspension and 1985 was the last year of solid front axle
– fifth generation 1988 a longer wheelbase one-piece cargo-box wall
-sixth generation 1997 minor design update and it was the last Hilux built in Japan
-Seventh Generation it uses a ladder frame chassis construction, and they introduce four doors cab with hidden clamshell doors and Hilux start production in Thailand
-Eighth generation 2015 features the “Keen Look “design language with a slimmer headlight shape This design continues into the interior with similar AC vents and centre fascia design, which has been described as more “car-like” 2.7 L in line VVT-I engine 160HP at 5500 rpm
